If you want to speak fluently in Spanish, it is important to learn phrases and expressions that allow you to hold a dialogue or join sentences together. In today’s video I’ve explained how to use the expression “en cambio” (instead) in Spanish. It is a very useful expression that is often used when we want to express an idea that is contrary to the person we are talking to.

It is very easy to use and gives you the possibility to speak more naturally and fluently with a Spanish speaker when expressing opposing ideas.

  • Estoy contenta
  • En cambio, yo estoy aburrida.
  • Yo siempre voy a dormir pronto
  • En cambio, yo siempre voy a dormir tarde.
  • Yo siempre como frutas.
  • En cambio, yo nunca como frutas.
  • Estoy muy nerviosa.
  • En cambio, yo estoy tranquila

The main element in order to be able to use this phrase correctly is the presence of two opposite expressions. In this case: contenta/ aburrida, pronto/ tarde, siempre/ nunca, nerviosa/ tranquila.

Translation of the dialogues:

  • I am happy
  • Instead, I am bored.
  • I always go to bed early
  • Instead, I always go to bed late.
  • I always go to bed late.
  • Instead, I never eat fruit.
  • I am very nervous.
  • Instead, I am calm
