“Empezar” or “comenzar”, which is better?
One of the most common questions my students ask me is what the difference is between verbs empezar y comenzar, or terminar y acabar. 🤔
The truth is that there is no substantial difference. They are interchangeable verbs that you can use according to your preference. In other words, these verbs are synonyms. 😊
List of verb pairs with the same meaning
Here is a list of the 10 most commonly used verbs:
- gustar mucho = encantar (to like a lot)
- pasar = ocurrir (to happen)
- empezar = comenzar (to start)
- acabar = terminar (to finish)
- caminar = andar (to walk)
- mostrar = enseñar (to show)
- irse = marcharse (to leave)
- contestar = responder (to answer)
- encender = poner (la lavadora, la tele, etc.) (to turn on)
- devolver = regresar (to come back)
