La hora en español - Spanish Time

Before learning how to tell time in Spanish, make sure you know Spanish numbers. You can learn and practice watching these videos on my YouTube channel:

• Numbers from 0 to 10
• Numbers from 10 to 20
• Numbers from 20 to 30
• Numbers from 30 to 100

Then you need to learn some simple phrases to tell the time.

• SON LAS ...

  son las tres - 3:00
  son las tres y cinco - 3:05
  son las tres y veinte - 3:20

• ... Y CUARTO

  son las tres y cuarto - 3:15
  son las cuatro y cuarto - 4:15
  son las cinco y cuarto - 5:15

• ... Y MEDIA

  son las tres y media - 3:30
  son las cuatro y media - 4:30
  son las cinco y media - 5:30

• ... MENOS CUARTO

  son las cuatro menos cuarto - 3:45 (It's a quarter to four)
  son las cinco menos cuarto - 4:45 (It's a quarter to five)
  son las seis menos cuarto - 5:45 (It's a quarter to six)

• ... EN PUNTO - It's optional, you can use it if you want

  son las cuatro (en punto) - 4:00
  son las cinco (en punto) - 5:00
  son las seis (en punto) - 6:00

Important trick:

Use "ES LA UNA" instead of "SON LAS UNA"

• ES LA UNA - Use "UNA" instead of "UNO" since it's related to the Spanish word "hora", which is feminine

  es la una - 1:00
  es la una y cinco - 1:05
  es la una y veinte - 1:20
